The Dock-It™ decaleur is the brainchild of Tom Matchak, a framebuilder, designer, and engineer. Having recently collaborated on the popular TMAT switch with Velo Lumino, Tom's curiosity led to revisiting the question of how to best join the handlebar bag to the bicycle on a randoneuring-style arrangement. He set about imagining a new approach to reduce the elements to the essentials; the TMAT switch offered inspiration, and soon he was at the milling machine turning his idea into a working model.
With a prototype in hand, it was a logical decision to reach out to Dave Cain of Waxwing Bag Co. to test the unit and consider the bag-side of the equation. This lead to some preliminary feedback, many miles of testing, and a number of refinements based on roughly 3,000 miles of use to date. Dave also produced the first "DRB" (Dock-It™Ready Bag), a handlebar bag specifically designed to integrate with the Dock-It™. Additionally, he has taken on the retail end of the project in conjunction with his Waxwing work.
Working with Dave and a number of other testers, the design has been refined and adjusted through a number of iterations leading to an initial production run in early 2017.
