Waxwing Bag Co. is nestled in the heart of Vermont's Green Mountains. All bags are made by David Cain--a guy who can't seem to let go of this desire to create functional beauty. Dave has a background in design, woodworking, art, and making -in some manner or another- since college. He's built boats, houses and furniture, but bags are what really get him going.
A number of years ago he wanted a Rivendell Hobo bag. Alas, they were no longer available, so he decided to sew his own. The process was so fun and invigorating that he felt he had to make another... and another.... and the urge hasn't let up yet.
Fate smiled upon him one day when he noticed a ragged but compelling bag strapped to the rear rack of an old three-speed at a local bike shop. A few days went by and he was unable to get it out of his mind. He went back to the shop and inquired about the bag--it had be thrown out! Luckily the barrel of trash had not been emptied and the bag was handed over. This is that bag:
Its not everyday you come upon a lovely old randonneuring bag in rural Vermont. Now he had a template. Clearly something was up...
Besides making cycling gear Dave goofs around with his wife Nancy, savors long cycling journeys, makes maple syrup, talks to the cats, gardens, skis, takes naps, and does magic tricks for impressionable nieces and nephews.
